This Saturday (December 6) is Community Day at The Mariners' Museum! For Hampton Roads residents & Military Members stationed here in Hampton Roads, admission is only $5 per person and children 5 & under are free. Enjoy loads of family fun at a great price.  This discount is for Hampton Roads residents only. Must show valid ID or proof of residency for discount.  Military Members show proof of being stationed in Hampton Roads and show military id and you will receive the special admission price as well.

What you'll FIND at the Mariners' Museum & Park;

The Mariners’ Museum, located in Newport News, VA is one of the largest and most prestigious maritime museums in the world and has been designated by Congress as America’s National Maritime Museum.

The collection of over 35,000 artifacts include miniature ship models, scrimshaw, maritime paintings, decorative arts, carved figureheads, working steam engines and much more. The museum is situated on within a 550-acre park that is the nation’s largest privately-owned and maintained park that is free and open to the public. The park includes the 160-acre lake Maury, the 5-mile Noland Trail and the iconic Lions Bridge that overlooks the tranquil James River. Boat rentals are available at the Boat Dock on Lake Maury through the Summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 AM to 5 PM and include paddle boats, john boats and canoes.

USS MONITOR CENTER

The Museum campus also includes the USS MONITOR Center where many artifacts from the famous ironclad are on exhibit and the incredible story of her creation, battle, sinking and recovery are told in vivid detail. Be a part of the action in the high-definition battle theater, walk on the full-scale Monitor replica, see artifacts like the iconic revolving gun turret undergoing conservation and experience interactive exhibits.

Each year, The Museum hosts The Battle of Hampton Roads Weekend to commemorate The Civil War battle between the USS Monitor and USS Merrimack that changed modern naval warfare forever. NEW EXHIBITIONS

Now open through January 4, 2015 – Savage Ancient Seas: Dinosaurs of the Deep. Bring the entire family for a Dinosaur exhibition like no other! Enter the deep, dark prehistoric world of carnivorous marine reptiles, gigantic flesh-eating fish, flying reptiles with 3-foot skulls and the biggest sea turtles to have ever lived. See the Tylosaur, the largest marine lizard ever found in North America at 45-feet long. Take your photo with the largest turtle ever found or inside the jaws of a Megalodon. Enjoy 3D movies in our new high definition EXPLORERS THEATER. This permanent, high-definition theater allows visitors to transcend the museum experience into the world of undersea exploration. With this theater, visitors will be able to: Watch a short film on how maritime exploration has shaped mankind’s history; Interact with live feeds from exploration vessels around the globe; Experience thrilling 3D films and other feature films covering a wide range of maritime topics; Participate in our award-winning Interactive Video Conferencing programs. The Mariners' Museum and Park hosts a variety of special events including family programs, lectures, beer & wine tastings, an annual Pirate Run 5k and 10K race, free summer concert series and many more fun activities. FUTURE VISITS AND MILITARY DISCOUNTS:

Military admission is $11 for adults, $10 for students 13 and up and $7 for kids ages 6- 12. Kids 5 and under are free. Some programs are an additional fee.
