Largest Military Family Ski Event in The Nation Happening at Taos Ski Valley

Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico - The 5th Annual Not Forgotten Outreach Week’s FREE event will be held from January 16th – 21st, 2018. Taos Ski Valley (TSV) and Not Forgotten Outreach, Inc. (NFO) invite Past & Present Military Members, their immediate family & Gold Star Families the opportunity to enjoy a week on the slopes, w/ free equipment rentals, $35.00 lift tickets, group lessons, Children’s Ski School and childcare STEEP discounts, allowing the whole family to reap the healing benefits.

The event incorporates group dining, providing beneficial socialization and bonding opportunities through encouraging participants to spend time together as a family and build relationships with new friends. In 2017, there were over 2,000 Military Family attendees, this year TSV & NFO expect to Host over 3,000 Military Families! Making the event the largest gathering of Military Families having fun together at a ski resort.

Not Forgotten Outreach, Inc., a Taos, New Mexico non-profit, brings Military Families from all over the US together at Taos Ski Valley for an experience filled with fun activities on & off the Ski Mountains. Military Families hit the slopes with loved ones and Military friends at a Ski Resort started by WWII Veteran Ernie Blake. The Blake family approved the start of the event when Jonah Salloway, former event director at TSV, came up with the idea in November 2013. Since the new owner, Louis Bacon, purchased TSV the annual event has only grown in the number of participants and most importantly in support from TSV employees, by taking ownership of the event for Military Families. To improve “Mindfulness” and relationships, NFO is proud to have partnered with the Department of Veteran Affairs Care Management & Social Work Services to offer intimacy & caregiving training by Nicole Jasmine Johnson, MSW, MA, LCSW. This intimacy & caregiver training will provide desperately needed guidance to Military Couples in how to adjust their personal relationship aspirations when dealing with a wounded warrior with either physical or cognitive injuries, enabling them to learn a “new norm” of intimacy in their relationships. Classes will be held each morning at 10am and afternoons at 3pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Connected Warriors Yoga will provide evidence-based Trauma-Conscious yoga therapy programs for Service members, Veterans and their Families every morning of the event at 9am. Defendu Academy of Taos will provide a self-defense class on Wednesday at 10am, taught by former Special Forces Soldier Ryan Daley. The VA Mobile Vet Center will be available Saturday 10am – 2pm, to answer both active duty and veteran’s questions on benefits entitlements. On Friday, Melanie A. Suazo, SGM (Ret), Director of the New Mexico Women Veterans Program of the NM Department of Veterans’ Services, will be on hand at the event to reach out to women veterans in NM. Thursday from 1000 till 1400 Army vs Navy vs Marines vs Air Force on the Mountain. Join us as we challenge each other during the Inter-Service Branch Races.

On Thursday & Saturday night NFO will host a FREE “Appreciation Dinner” for 200 Military Families each night. Lodging discounts to Military Families are graciously being offered by fourteen different hotels in the Taos area.

Millennials Helping Military Families: We are again blessed to have an AmeriCorps Southwest Region NCCC team of eleven, each of which has received over fifteen hours of training in military culture and military family lives, through the PsychArmor Institute. AmeriCorps NCCC will be on hand to help out during the event.
