ABOUT MOCA
The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art’s (MOCA) Exhibitions and Education Department works collectively to generate signature exhibitions and related educational programming. Our goal is to promote contemporary art makers and to expose the community to these artists' ideas in order to stimulate and enhance social discourse. We do this through group tours, classes, lectures, films, community outreach, and student and teacher-based programming.
Within our exhibition spaces we provide interactive areas where guests may engage in hands-on activity. The Exhibitions and Education Department supports and practices an inclusive dialogue with all participants -- the artist, the visitor, and the museum.
MOCA’s definition of “CONTEMPORARY”: Contemporary art is the product and reflection of the culture in which we live. Most of the artwork at MOCA is made by living artists. We showcase artists that were either radical in their day or are finding new approaches to depicting objects and ideas now.
