Hi, I’m Kate.
I’m a wife, a mom, and a military spouse. I’m also a personal finance geek who loves debating the various benefits of different retirement savings options, or how to use coupons in the best way for your family, or whether now is the right time for someone to buy or rent a house. My passion is helping everyday folks use their money to do the things that are important to them.
I get a lot of help when I work!
I help people like you figure out their Big Dreams, and then figure out how to make them come true. I’m not a financial advisor, but an educator, coach, and counselor. I believe that you are responsible for your own choices, but I can bring information, experience, and an outside perspective to the process.
As a college student, I did all the wrong things with money. I spent most of my pay on unimportant things, I stretched my credit cards beyond their natural limits, and couldn’t be bothered to go to class. Marriage brought some focus to my finances. I didn’t want to be broke forever! I read personal finance books, and I diligent paid off all those student loans, credit cards, and car loans. Some time working for a small mortgage bank expanded my interest from my money to other people’s money. Fascinating stuff, this money. So useful, and yet often so much trouble.
I started in the financial education business through writing. I’ve been writing for over six years at Military.com’s The Paycheck Chronicles blog. There are over 1,600 posts there, so grab a cup of tea and have a read-through. My scope has grown to include individual counseling and public speaking. As a military spouse, I have a personal interest in understanding all the details about military pay and benefits, and I have personal experience trying to fight through the sometimes confusing systems the military creates.

I write about many of the same topics that I write about at The Paycheck Chronicles, but I have a bit more leeway to go off on random tangents or write about something that I absolutely love or hate. You can expect to hear from me three or four times a week, with information regarding military pay and benefits, general personal finance, or some super-good deal I’ve found.
