February 2019 – The Heroes at Home Military Spouse Awards program is very pleased to return to the Hampton Roads, Central Virginia, Northern Virginia, and Florida region. Presented by USAA, the 2019 Heroes at Home will recognize deserving military spouses from all branches for their strength, their many sacrifices and their service to the Hampton Roads community.
Heroes at Home, founded by The Flagship Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia in 2005, is a highly regarded, regional recognition program that honors military spouses from all ranks and branches for their strength, sacrifices, volunteerism and support for the military community. For more than a decade, Heroes at Home has recognized our military spouses for their important contributions to our local communities and has empowered military spouses to further their mission in support of the military community and our country.
This program started in Hampton Roads, Virginia and has expanded over the years to Central and Northern Virginia as well as Hampton Roads, Florida. More than 2700 unsung heroes have been nominated for this honor over the years. This program has even captured the attention of the White House. Past finalists have been invited to the White House and our 2007 Spouse of the Year, Linda Port, went on to receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award, presented by President George W. Bush. Past Heroes at Home Military Spouse of the Year recipients have served as speakers at area events and have also been recognized for this award by numerous organizations in their respective regions.
Any spouse of an active duty U.S. military service member or Guard or Reserves spouse activated for more than 180 days, living in the Hampton Roads region may be nominated for the 2019 Heroes at Home Hampton Roads Military Spouse Awards. The Hampton Roads military and civilian communities will come together in May to honor and recognize military spouses in this region for their unending strength, their extraordinary personal sacrifices and their selfless commitment to the community. ALL OF THE NOMINEES and their guests will be invited to attend free of charge the Heroes at Home Military Spouse Appreciation and Awards Luncheons are on day of event. We will announce the finalists and name the Heroes at Home Military Spouse of the Year at the event.

About the Heroes at Home Event
Heroes at Home is a very highly regarded, regional recognition program that honors military spouses from all ranks and all branches for their strength, sacrifices, volunteerism and support for the military community. A judging panel consisting of members of the business community, as well as members of the Armed Services, will review the nominations and select the finalists, one of whom will be named the Military Spouse of the Year. ALL NOMINEES will be honored at the luncheon and awards ceremony. The finalists and SPOUSE OF THE YEAR will be announced at this luncheon.

Who Can Attend: Registration is open to ALL spouses from every service branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy): including active, National Guard, and Reserve. And we believe once a spouse always a spouse: retired & veteran spouses are welcome, too! We aren’t specifically targeting first responder spouses this year, but they are welcome to attend, especially since so many first responder spouses are also veteran spouses.
Why: Heroes at Home has recognized our military spouses for their important contributions to our local communities and has empowered military spouses to further their mission in support of the military community and our country.
