Hampton Roads Military: Join The Greene Turtle Hampton for Funds for Friends as they raise money for fallen police officer Katie Thyne

12 February 2020 by

Please join The Greene Turtle Hampton on February 16, 2020, as they host a fundraising event for fallen police officer Katie Thyne and her 2 year-old daughter.

Our community mourns the death of Katie Thyne.  On January 23, 2020, just prior to 7pm, one of Newport News Police officers, Katie Thyne, was dragged by a seven-time felon and killing her by crashing into a tree with her stuck in the door.

Katie Thyne was a 24-year-old mother to a beautiful two-year old, Raegan. She was a member of our Police Department and was only on the street for less than 4 months after being released from Field Training.

Katie was also a member of our US Military and in the Navy. She was still currently in the Navy Reserves. Katie worked with our local Boys and Girls Club as a basketball coach and was smiling 24/7.

Her fiance and her just got engaged less than 6 days prior in Las Vegas on a softball trip prior to her being murdered. For Newport News Police, this was our first line of duty death in 25 years. Katie was a young, bright, up and coming role model to our department.

Please join The Greene Turtle in Hampton where she frequently visited for Funds for Friends.
