Our family enjoyed a week-long vacation in Banner Elk, North Carolina just a six hour drive from the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. We love to escape the Virginia heat every summer and visit the mountains.
The Banner Elk area sits at around 3,700 feet where the average July temperature hovers around 75 degrees. It is breathtaking!
Banner Elk and surrounding areas are loaded with outdoor activities from white water rafting to ziplining to hiking and biking. It's an awesome place nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
One of our favorite activities that our family enjoyed recently in Banner Elk was white water rafting. There are a couple different rafting companies to choose from. I'm going to share with you why Edge of the World is simply the best!

ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE WITH EDGE OF THE WORLD
We arrived at the Edge of the World facility along with around 50 other people to get fitted for our life jackets and hop on board the bus for the 45 minute drive to the river.
The Edge of the World tour is known for it's comedy. I honestly had no idea what we were in store for but this was certainly a highlight of our experience.
The entertainment was second to none. It was non-stop laughs the entire bus ride. With so much comedic material, I wondered do they do this on the bus ride back? How can they top this? And, they did!

What makes Edge of the World unique?
It is definitely the fantastic tour guides, comedy show, food and ability to do re-runs on the class 3 rapids. If you are in the area and considering white water rafting, I highly recommend Edge of the World.
I am a foodie and this was one of the best meals if not the best meal we had in Banner Elk our entire trip. The sit down meal consisted of lemonade, homemade granola, seasoned breaded chicken followed by dessert. It was really a memorable meal.
After we ate, we were able to do re-runs on the class 3 rapids. This is also unique to Edge of the World as they lease the land directly at the site of the class 3 rapids. Therefore, they are the only white water rafting company that is able to do these re-runs. This was huge and we also got some pretty awesome photos at this site from their photographer.
